Losing Weight Leads To Obesity

After returning from Canada where we ate like kings for our entire vacation, Bri and I decided that we need to drop some poundage. We have been passively whining about gaining weight for a really long time, so we needed to find a way that we could both be motivated, and what would be more American than a little friendly competition. She and I are both incredibly competitive, so we knew if the stakes were right, we would be highly motivated to lose weight quickly.

The idea is simple. The person who loses 10% of their body weight first is the winner. And what are the stakes you ask? The stakes are big, really big. The loser has to buy a flat screen TV.

I do not want to shell out the cash for the TV, so I am highly motivated to win. How will I win? I am running far and eating right. So far it has been 24 hours, and I am realizing how much i miss these things: Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Cheese, Pizza, and beer.

I am going to track what I have been eating here and the amount of exercise I have been doing in order to get down to 181.8 lbs.

Track my progress here!

August 18th: Official weigh in was 201.8 lbs.

Food:
mixture of fat free Rosarita refried beans with 1/4 avocado with onion and pico de gallo in a brown rice tortilla

10 Snap Peas

2 bananas

3 slices of deli turkey

Exercise:
Ran 3.3 miles

First 8 minutes were at a constant pace, then started interval training running hard for 30 seconds then returning to a slow jog for 30 seconds. Repeat 6 times. Then returned to a jog and finally a 4 minute cool down.

Total time :29 minutes

Also did 20 push ups.

This morning I weighed in at 197.4 lbs. which appears to be a loss of 4.4 lbs. in 24 hours. Woo Hoo!

Canada. America's Friendly Hat.

By now, most of you know that Bri and I have escaped to the Great White North for a week. As of now, we are in Vancouver and are just beginning our exploration of the city this morning. We have a very ambitious day planned out so far, and will be cramming about 4 days worth of activities into one. We are having a wonderful time so far, and have just arrived from Victoria, which is a beautiful place.

For some unknown reason I woke up at 6:30 this morning with the inspiration to chronicle a bit of what has been going on. We arrived into Victoria by way of Anacortes, WA on Sunday, and stayed at Goldstream Provincial Park for the first two nights. It was a lovely campsite that was remarkably secluded for being only 10 minutes from downtown Victoria. We were spoiled by this. When we arrived in Vancouver last night, I had done some research on camping near the city, and came across a wonderful looking spot that was under one of the main bridges in a "park." I think a more accurate description of this place would be "tree-less asphalted redneck corral: featuring some jackass revving his motorcycle and driving around with no shirt and a gut he could have balanced his beer can on." Actually the motorcycle noise was not so bad considering that it covered up some of the honking from the stand-still traffic on the other side of the chain link fence in which the park was contained. Needless to say, we got the hell out of there as fast as possible.

We found a little motor inn for the night, and aside from the fact that it smells a lot like the ashtray can at the bar, it is not too bad. At least it has electricity and continental breakfast. I have never understood why it is called "continental," Shouldn't it be called "Breakfast that you could find at a truck stop at 3 A.M.?" I shouldn't make fun, I am already getting excited about cheese danishes from the wrapped in plastic, the large plastic dispenser of Raisin Bran, and above all orange juice that comes from a machine. Yum yum.

Well as they say in the "tree-less asphalted redneck corral: featuring some jackass revving his motorcycle and driving around with no shirt and a gut he could have balanced his beer can on," "continental breakfast is good, eating fresh possum hit in traffic right by your campsite is more good."

Wow...Long time no writey writey

Geez...where to start? A lot has happened in the last 2 months, and I have chronicled nil.

First off, I graduated!! I have been looking for a job, but due to the down real estate market, finding a position has been difficult to say the least. I have been talking with a few firms, but everyone seems to be on a hiring freeze as of now. I am going to keep looking, but don't really mind working at the bar during the summer because it affords me weekends off, and my days are free. I would like a job though, don't get me wrong, but it seems like things are not at their best right now, and I am quite content with where I am right now.

Secondly, everyone seems to be pregnant and engaged, though none at the same time (as far as I am aware). My sisters Kathryn and Jamie are both expecting little ones, and I could not be more thrilled. I can't wait to have a nephew in Portland that I can see all the time. Hopefully Kathy and Brad end up here, but only time will tell. Jason and Emily are engaged, as are Jade and Ian, and everyone I know is now asking me if the pressure is on. The answer is no. So stop bugging me. Thanks.

Thirdly I got a drum set, so I have officially joined the ranks of the misanthropic troglodytes that are drummers. My friend Kyle who is a great drummer imparted some words of wisdom about becoming a drummer which were, "Don't blame me if you are homeless and without a girlfriend in a month", I suppose it goes with the territory.

That's all for now. Hopefully I will follow up soon.

Graduation is at hand

Obviously this means that i will need to change the name of this blog on June 9th, the day of my last final exam. Also obviously, I have not written here in a long time. Here is why: I was busy doing things that I can't remember right now.

I do have a couple of updates. First, the dog is learning to behave. Second, I have become remarkably domesticated, and have just bought a bunch of tools. Thirdly, I am trying to find a job, so if you know anyone who is hiring for my ideal job, please let me know. To further explain, I am looking for a job in commercial real estate brokerage, professional beer taster, or hamburger hoarding. I am not sure that the last job actually exists aside from the mythical Hamburgler of old, but I will have a degree in business soon and should be able to figure this out.

I don't have much else today because I am in class, but I will try to put something of relative substance soon.

The Grand Cheese Baby Scheme

Happy New Year!

I am back in school and have continued to attend classes of which I could not tell you the name. The reason that I cannot tell you the name of any of my classes is because every class that I have attended in the last 4 terms has had identical subject material. All in all, its really not that fulfilling. There is good news regarding school though, I graduate at the end of the Spring term. WOOOOOHOOOOO!

Expect news of a grand and much delayed graduation party soon.

Onto today's topic. My girlfriend has decided to quit eating cheese beginning New Years Day and ending when her new nephew Mateo is born, which is expected to happen on April 1st.

I realize that you may think that this would not affect me in the least, but let me assure you that it does. Unless we are eating out, I do not get cheese. I cannot cook anything with cheese, and nothing is cooked with cheese in it. This is TERRIBLE.

As a result, I am going to have to devise a scheme that will return my dairy intake to its usual unhealthy quantities. The best I can figure is that I am going to be forced to somehow induce labor. As I am not an expert on this subject, so I am inclined to find a doctor with questionable ethics, who will be sympathetic to my dietary frustrations. Perhaps this will require a trip to South America or any HMO.

I realize after writing this how terrible this sounds, but maybe its just the way I am explaining it that makes me sound evil and selfish. Let me try again. I need Bri's sister to have her baby immediately, so that Bri can cook food for me with cheese in it again. Ah, yes, that sounds much better.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.
